OVERSEAS WORKERS, FLOWERING

One of the joys of employing casual foreign staff is that it can lead to a stream of visitors from their countries of origin to our cellar door. New Zealand has 41 working holiday schemes. Approximately 55,000 working holidaymakers arrive here each year. When the workload has demanded it, we have been happy to employ workers from the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Canada, USA, Germany and Singapore.

Our most recent visitors were from the Czech Republic. They visited for lunch having been recommended to do this by Magda, a young Czech employee. They enjoyed their lunch and purchased wine to take on their journey around New Zealand. Their tour guide, Ludek Matysak, plans to return with another group next year.

We are often told by New Zealand folk who visit for the first time and enjoy our antipasto style food and café environment that we are one of Martinborough’s best kept secrets. However they do not plan to keep it that way and say as they leave that  they will put their favourable experience here on their Facebook's with a recommendation to their friends to make  us their café of choice on their visit to Martinborough.

So this does reinforce that word of mouth is a powerful  marketing tool. What better way for folks to learn about you than through someone who has had personal experience of  what is on offer. So my message is: many folks have  enjoyed our hospitality over the year. We thank them for their support in choosing to stop here to eat, taste and  purchase wine and, for passing their positive experiences on  to others. I am sure you will enjoy a similar experience.

Our café is open every day from Boxing Day to Sunday 4th   January inclusive 11am – 5pm. Then it will be back to  weekends and public holidays with the same hours. We would love to welcome you to taste wine, enjoy a glass or an  antipasto-style platter over the festive season. Remember too that you can order wine on-line for that special Christmas gift. I hope some of you successfully made the Olive Shortbread. The recipe appeared in my last blog.

The grapes are flowering. Leaf plucking will soon begin.
