2003 was a year in which we enjoyed a long, warm summer. There were anxious moments in April, at the beginning of vintage, when Martinborough had two weeks of misty weather. Those winemakers who resisted picking were rewarded by resumption of sun and dry weather, allowing us to pick grapes at preferred levels of ripeness.
Red wines from this vintage were suited to prolonged maturation in oak barrels. Two wines from this vintage are still available, while the Pinot Noir is still to be released.
